Scarborough South Cliff Golf Club

At just under 6,500 yards, par 72, South Cliff presents a real challenge, particularly when the sea breezes blow.

The course, which remains true to the ideals of the legendary Dr Alister Mackenzie (designer of Augusta) is in two parts.

On the inland side are the first three and final eight holes, with undulating tree lined fairways, accuracy from the tee as at a premium.

The seven cliff top holes provide a more a typical Links challenge with spectacular views of Scarborough’s South Bay and the rugged coastline to Filey.

  played this course and apart from the views the seaside part of the course was boring you could hit it as wayward right on most tees and still have a shot towards green 15th and 16th are played on a slant. North Cliff Golf Course on the north side is miles better !

  On a sunny Monday morning in scarborough, me and my mate was welcomed to scarborough south cliff g c with a bargain green fee of £15.00. We were not sure what to expect from this course as it was a last minute choice as we could not get on Flanborough head, the 1st tea shot  on this par 4 is hitting towards a water trap that needs 200 yards to carry or go left of it for a longer 2nd shot into a steep long green running uphill from the front to back. The obviuse better holes are the ones over the bridge to the cliffe edge, they have got to be the most scenic holes i have ever played, even better than St Andrews. The greens are great and all had the same speeds throught the round with some sneeky breaks in them . All in all this course is set up for all handicaps, as the fair way traps are placed in great positions to catch the good, bad and the uglyiest of drives, so you need to be straight of the tee. I still can not believe we only paid £15.00 for this near perfect golf course ,which is a credit to the managment and the green keepers and the pro who was a good bloke with a great sense of humour. Thanks

  Played this course in late April and was blessed with great weather. The course is split in two with a 5 minute walk through a housing estate to get to the cliff top holes. It is worth it for the views over the bay and the castle. The course was in excellent condition although the greens were a little slow, but the bunker conditions were amongst the best I've played (I visited a few). Great food in the clubhouse topped off an excellent  day and I would definately recommend it.
