What we say
Established in 1914, Oakdale is one of many fine courses in Yorkshire touched by the genius of Dr Alister MacKenzie. Mackenzie has been responsible for some of the world’s best known courses but it’s fair to say that Oakdale, located in the historic spa town of Harrogate, isn’t among them. Nevertheless it guarantees a memorable golfing encounter thanks to a unique blend of moorland and parkland golf.
Established in 1914 and designed by Dr Alister MacKenzie of Leeds, Oakdale offers an opportunity to savour a unique mix of moorland and parkland golf and is acknowledged as one of the premier golf clubs in Northern England.
Oakdale, known locally for its friendly and welcoming atmosphere has a par of 71 and is 6484 yards for gentlemen and 5513 yards for ladies with a par of 72. Its main feature is the local Oak Beck which meanders alongside the tenth fairway and in front of the ninth and eighteenth greens thus ensuring a high level of concentration when playing approaches and tee shots.

I have been a member here for just over a year now after much deliberation over which club in Harrogate to join. I had always thought Oakdale had seemed the most intimidating, however having joined I cannot explain how welcoming and friendly all members are and it really rubs off on everyone which makes for a good round. The first tee is brilliant, slightly daunting at first but oh so addictive, the launch down to the first fairway is always fun to watch. The whole course plays very well as the greens and tees are very well looked after. The rough is not too thick in most places but there are the odd areas of thick 'not finding your ball' rough when you play down the wrong sides of the hole. There are plenty of feature holes; the first having an elevated tee, the fourth driving over a hedge round a dogleg, the seventh driving down a long sloping fairway, the ninth is my favourite, the tenth requires extreme accuracy for a good start, and the eleventh is a real slog uphill to the toughest fastest green on the course. I'd highly recommend playing the course as it is in my opinion the best course along with one other in Harrogate.
