Hunley Hall Golf Club & Hotel – Morgan’s Course
Last updated:
What we say
European Senior Tour player John Morgan was asked to create something a bit special along this stretch of North-East coastline just over a decade ago and he rose to the challenge. A combo of coastal and North Yorkshire countryside make the views memorable – you can see the lot from the short downhill par-4 4th on Hunley Hall Golf Club & Hotel’s Morgan course.
Accommodation: There’s an on-site hotel featuring standard rooms as well as spacious superior rooms overlooking the golf course and coastline.

Hunley Hall Golf Club & Hotel's Morgan golf course reflects its creator's favourite holes played throughout his long professional career. There's a superb 292-yard, par-4 signature hole which is entirely downhill with fantastic views of the entire golf course and dramatic coastline. Golfers certainly have flexibility at Hunley as several golf courses are available from the 29 interchangeable holes.

Morgans is the longest course at Hunley. Starts off with a relatively straight forward par 4 "Jaws", but that just leads you into a false sense of security. The fourth, "Snaiths" is a great downhill hole for obtaining a birdie, just remember to factor in the wind and the farmers field on the right. The sixth "Trillio's Torment" , is just that, a torment. Especially If you land in the newly installed pot bunker. The 15th "Fox Covert", is a tricky par 4, table top green surrounded by bunkers, with a steep face bunker guarding the green approach. Hunley Hall has 29 holes which incorporates 4 courses. On any day there is the 18 hole course and the spare nine. The Club and Course had a change of management, which has brought positve developments. Its a challenging course with heavy rough, deep soft glass sand bunkers and varying coastal weather. As you nurse your chosen beverage in the bar, you will know you have played a game of golf at Hunley. On the negative side, there could be better signage for tee directions for the courses, especially the first tees, the scorecards could have a map which might help visitors. Friendly staff, creating a very welcome atmosphere, The club shop staff can be a bit grumpy on some days I have visited, maybe they were having off days. It really is a hidden gem of a club and with a hotel attached too.
