Durham City Golf Club

Durham City Golf Club is one of England's oldest inland clubs having been inaugurated in the historic cathedral city in 1887. We are a traditional golf club with modern standards, taking a relaxed and welcoming stance to all members and visitors. The course offers a challenge for golfers of all abilities; the subtly sloped greens and gentle terrain make it a testing but always enjoyable challenge.

The Club is located in the village of Langley Moor just off the A690, 2 miles south west of the ancient city centre of Durham, easily accessible from the A1(M). The history of the city with its castle and cathedral World Heritage site makes it a must see place for all visitors to the north east. For golfers, Durham City Golf Club should be added to their list of must play courses when visiting the region or organising a society day.

  Poor: Booked a 5.30pm teetime with a 2for1 voucher through proshop and was told that they shut at 5pm and the bar would take voucher and payment. Arrived and bar new nothing about it. The voucher was passed form hand to hand before they eventually accepted it and took payment. Arrived at the 1st tee to find that there was NO teetime booked and it was a ball chute, so had too wait way past 5.30 which very annoying as nights drawing in to fit in 18holes as a paying visitor. Got through 9 holes in 1hr 45 which was good (two ball) but then had 3 and four balls cutting in on the 10th so took 1hr for the next 4 holes. Walked off after 13 holes. Good: The course is excellent. Well maintained, very picturesque and fantastic greens. Well set out and a very good challenge.The club house is friendy and welcoming and a lovely pint of Stella. Would play again if could be guaranteed a time. Small points but important when 'on the clock'.

  Excellent course well maintained friendly people.course. Challenging but not to difficult. Good choice for equipment in shop and clubhouse very clean and excellent choice of beers and food.

  Recently played Durham City and despite the recent deluge the course was very well presented with the greens being exceptionally quick and true for the time of year. The tee looked busy when we arrived but after a bite to eat in the newly refurbished bar area we strolled onto the empty first tee. I found the course to be a good but very fair test. In the main what you see is what you get. Each hole offered a new challenge particularly early on in the round where the river borders 3 of the first 6 holes. I enjoyed the course, the membrs were friendly and the hospitality in the clubhouse made us all feel very welcome.

  The welcome was Ok but the impression was that this would be a place where we would need to watch our P's & Q's. Quite a queue at the first tee and the 10AM retired members set, were none too pleased at our 2 fourballs getting in before them. The course was very interesting, and course management was needed to think your way round: not ideal for the tee it up and bash it as far as possible squad. The greens were OK but the pace seemed to vary a bit. On the whole an enjoyable day and the tip from two friendly member's that all the puts moved towards the river was true!
