What we say
Wilton Golf Club is rapidly developing a reputation for the best golfing day out in the area. The golf course itself is set in parkland with an abundance of trees and shrubs which makes for a pleasant walk.
But golfers should not be deceived: what appears to be a relatively short and low scoring 18 holes has unseen problems for the cocky golfer. Situated close to the A19 it is ideally located for visitors from the north or south and if you're looking for value for money then look no further.

I've been keen to play Wilton for a long time as I live nearby, just happened to get a chance to be signed onto the course so grasped it with both hands. First thing to say was that the temperatures were 0 degrees, this was a big mistake as all the greens were frozen solid and absolutely impossible to putt. However the general condition of the greens I felt was not the best with a lot of leaves and debris. The course is also very hilly and takes a heavy toll on your body, especially with the undulations of the back 9. I can't comment on the club house as I didn't visit, but the course itself was a bit of a letdown. I will try it again in the summer as decent weather might do it more justice. I was tempted by the membership offer until I played and decided against.

I joined Wilton Golf Club a few weeks ago and have managed to play this course twice in that time. On both visits I was alone, however within a hole or so I was invited to either join the group in front or to play through despite my status as a single on the course. The course itself is an interesting, parkland course with few water hazards. Despite this I found it challenging due to undulating fairways and well placed bunkers. The first 8 holes are set on the lower reaches of Eston Hills giving naturally sloping fairways which make the ball difficult to control which always makes for interesting results from the Tee. Greens at the moment are not in the best condition with them having been hollow tined and then suppliers of the topping letting the club down and hence delaying the finishing. Despite this they run reasonably well and are deceptively hard to read. My favourite hole is the Par 3 16th at about 150 yards off the yellows. It offers a well protected green down a fairway narrowed by trees. There are two practice areas with greens and a bunker which are as well kept as the rest of the course as well as a putting green. The club house is warm and friendly offering a range of food, a snooker room and a well stocked bar. On the whole the course is well kept, extremely friendly and upholds tradition whilst keeping up with the times and I would recommend it to anyone.
