What we say
Only a decade old, The Wynyard Golf Club’s Wellington golf course looks like it’s been around a lot longer than its tender years and is already established as one of the top golf courses in the North East. It’s a real test of golf from the word go – the imposing 476 yards opening hole – and that applies to the superstars who lined up in the 2005 Seve Trophy and happy hackers alike.
Wynyard Golf Club is a prestigious venue in the North East of England that offers superior standards of golf and hospitality. Set on the exclusive Wynyard Estate near Teesside and Hartlepool, the golf club attracts keen golfers who enjoy an excellent test of skill playing The Wellington Course.
Immaculate playing conditions, a classic golf course design and exceptional standards of service, hospitality and professionalism make Wynyard Golf Club one of the region's best sporting destinations.
The Duke of Wellington was a regular visitor to The Wynyard Golf Club during his lifetime and it is fitting that the first golf course to be created on the historic country park bears his name. The golf course opened in 1996 and has been a regular European Tour and Challenge Tour venue, hosting the 2005 Seve Trophy.
Accommodation: Hardwick Hall Hotel in Sedgefield and the Holiday Inn Express in Wolverston.

Seve conjured shots that magicians would have been proud of. His imagination and creative skill brought not only many trophies but drew in crowds to any tournament he entered. The Spanish Matador will never be forgotten and here, at Wynyard Golf Club in 2005 he brought together World Class players to battle it out upon the immaculate greens on The Wellington Course in his Seve Trophy. I've played the course only three times and each time I've come away simply wanting to go back. It is superb. Each hole is sheer quality from tee to immaculate green. The front nine holes twist through an estate of trees and foliage whilst being overlooked by large grand houses each one daring to peer upon Eden. The back nine swoop around opening up with views of the far off North Yorkshire Moors and it's Hills. And each hole is a test a Champion would relish. Testing water guarded par 3's, undulating par 4's that demand respect straight from the tee and long par 5's that will test your new driver to its max! All in all a place where a Legend chose to hold a tournament and a course certainly fit for a Legend's demands. Sheer quality.

After the open was played here I had the feeling that this was going to be a fantastic course. When i walked around it for the 4 days during the open I felt as though some of the holes has good character and where well designed. But after playing the course for the first time I felt somewhat disappointed. Even though I played off the back back tees the course didnt really seem that difficult. But dont get me wrong it was a very good course and in fantastic condition. I would recommend it to everyone.
