Played here several times, water features on nearly every hole! Fast greens!

Played it a few times. Okay to play every now and then in good weather, but wouldn't fancy playing there regularly or in winter. Some good holes, and a warm welcome in the Pro Shop but to be honest, I just don't like the course but I can't put my finger on why.

Charnock Richard is an open parkland course with nice features and steady undulations which is easy on the eye and the legs. Despite a long spell of wet weather recently, the fairways and surroundings were pIeasantly dry and the ball ran along well, I didn't get a plugged ball all round (For a change). The greens were in good condition I thought, quite zippy and challenging in places. There are plenty of water features, the fairways are wide in places and tight in places which can be made interesting when the wind blows. I played yesterday (Sunday 22-3-09) with my son who was over from Scarborough and we both thoroughly enjoyed our round here. I think £40 each is a bit excessive for a round of golf at Charnock Richard but with the 2 fore 1 offer it was great value! The only negative I can comment on was the absence of a course map on the scorecard, having never played here before we found ourselves searching for tees. There are hole maps by each tee to guide you once you have found them and I would say that around 40% of tees have ball washers. If you simply enjoy a game of golf then you will enjoy Charnock Richard

Drainage? What Drainage? Very wet course, even considering the recent weather. Greens bobbly, not enough rakes compared to number of bunkers, too few benches and ball washers. Club has no real clubhouse as such, a very small bar with an Italian Restaurant (recently closed down). A nice welcome in the pro-shop, which unfortuneately lacks any amount of stock. Would I like to play here again? No.
