Blackburn Golf Club

Blackburn Golf Club was founded in 1894 when Blackburn was at it’s height as a cotton and engineering town. The 18 hole parkland course today, with its outstanding views of the Pennines Hills and Lancashire coast is a far cry from that original course, where sheep and cattle grazed.

Over the past 116 years many changes and improvements have been made to the course and the clubhouse, which have made Blackburn Golf Club a place to be proud of.

Visitors are always given a warm welcome at Blackburn, our aim is to provide a challenging course which may be enjoyed by all golfers

  Blackburn GC is a bit of a hidden gem IMO, a good challenge yet playable for all levels. Greens are usually in good condition, not the quickest usually, and the course has looked fantastic for the last few summers. Trouble is mainly right on most holes, but as it's not the longest of courses it's not essential to hit driver on every hole, hence you can manage your way around. Two signature holes are 10th and 13th, par 5s with elevated tees, and the tricky 16th par 3. Well worth the green fee!

  Played midweek for £15 and was well worth the money. Well maintained course with a variety of different holes.Superb greens that rolled well and true.Great views of the surrounding area.The staff and members were friendly and helpful.The clubhouse nice with good food and drink.We had a good day and will be back to play again soon.

  Considering the amount of rain we have had this summer, the greens were in fantastic condition when we played. They rolled very true and were in better condition than several supposedly "better" courses such as pleasington and clitheroe. If you take into account the variety in holes Blackburn has (ie no two are the same unlike Clitheroe) and the very welcoming membership (unlike Pleasington) then it could be argued this is the best club in the local area. I'd certainly visit again, something I can't say about pleasington. Word of advice though, be prepared for a challenge as it's very hilly and tiring if you're used to flat courses!

  We had just had quite a lot of rainfall the preceding week so this will have contributed to the state of the course. There are some challenging tee shots from interesting tee positions and on a number, distance is key. The fairways had been allowed to grow but as I said, the rain probably stopped them being trimmed down. Despite the greens being damp, they ran true and consistent around the entire course. It is definitely a course I would recommend as I have seen it at it's worst and want to play it again. A good challenge for any level of golfer - just be prepared for the hills. Trolley recommended.
