Ashton Under Lyne Golf Club

What we say

What we loved: It has a good blend of holes, including some really nice par 3s where you have to be accurate. There are also some splendid long par 5s, interesting dog-legs and a fine clubhouse. What we hated: It was a bit on the short side, and when it gets really wet the course tends to get very boggy, so you pick up a lot of debris on your shoes.

Formed in 1913 Ashton Under Lyne Golf Club is a wooded course nestling in the foot hills of the Pennines on the edge of the Greater Manchester conurbation. Over the years great improvements have been made to the course; we have increased its length, added bunkers, improved trees and greens and planted many new trees, which are an attractive feature and of course a challenge!

Your Reviews

  • 5 out of 5 Best in the area

    By PAUL BRUNT

I think that this is an excellent course. Both the pro shop and club house have to be the best in the area. From the moment you arrive you are made to feel very welcome, Colin the club Pro and his assistant James are both highly qualified people who have an obvious passion for golf, the shop has to be one of the best stocked pro shop I have ever been in and at reasonable prices too. The course is over 6200 yards long and offers some challenging holes, the greens are well maintained and the fairways an absolute dream. Ashton Under Lyne Golf Course is almost 100 years and this is evident as you play a round of golf, the maturity of the trees that line the fairways adds to the beauty of this course and also add another dimension to its challenges. After playing a round of golf, the club house offers excellent facilities further enhanced by the friendly staff that are happy to serve you excellent home cooked food and very reasonable prices. All in all I would have absolutely no hesitation in recommending this club to anyone wishing to try a new challenge. Paul Brunt
