Arrived at Ulverston following a massive downpour. Fully expected the course to be closed but was pleasantly surprised to find this was not the case. Played nine holes before lunch and found the first three holes had blind drives over marker posts but they were spot on in their accuracy. These were not long holes but required accuracy from the tee and second shots to large greens needed to be up near the pins. The greens were in excellent condition. The eighteen holes in the afternoon were very enjoyable. The 5th, a par three needs to be very accurate as there is no bail out area on this one. (my playing partner was accurate - he had a hole in one). The course is a prime example of the fact that holes do not have to be over long to be a challenge. Good golf is rewarded, inaccurate shots are punished. The greens are mostly large and challenging but true, the fairways were in great condition. The scenery is first class too - views over Morecambe Bay and also towards the Lakeland mountains. A great day out was had by all and we all want to return - you can ask no more than that - well done Ulverston.

Played this course a few times now and I can whole heartedley (forgive spelling) say if you are in the area this is a course that demands playing. The staff are great and very helpful, the members are friendly and tolerant of visitors. The course is dramatic and fair in equal measure, the only very slight niggle is a couple of blind drives but the marker posts are accurate so I guess it's ok. The stand out holes for me were the first par 3, a 160yds across a valley and the 17th (possibly not right), a drive up out of an old quarry, the other holes are very good as well!! The only reason for a lack of 5 star reviews is a magical visit to Turnberry last year and I needed to give that 5 stars!
