The Hotel Collection, Shrigley Hall Hotel Golf & Country Club

What we say
Shrigley Hall Hotel Golf & Country Club, part of The Hotel Collection, boasts a traditional parkland layout and has an assortment of fine holes and a real sting in the tail. The short par-4 penultimate hole is tight and fraught with danger while the 18th is a classic par 5, a sweeping left-to-right dogleg with OB all the way down the right and the green sitting just beyond the hotel’s carp lake. Idyllic Shrigley is the perfect place to get away from it all.
This impressive Donald Steel parkland rounds off with an intriguing 548-yards right dogleg par-5 with a pond flanking the left side, prompting precise approach work to a large sloping green.

Owned by The Hotel Collection, Shrigley Hall Hotel Golf & Country Club is set in 262 acres of spectacular countryside on the edge of the Peak District and from the elevated par-4 13th tee in particular you’ll be knocked out by the stunning vistas – you can see across the Cheshire Plains. The golf course itself opened in 1989 and was designed by Donald Steel.

I played on this course in March 2015. The greens were unplayable with large amounts of sand just dumped on them. The people in the pro shop were embarrassed by the state of the course and basically charged us £5 to play and gave us a voucher to return with a 4-ball costing £54. I've since checked on other websites and it appears the greens are still in the same state so I doubt I'll ever return. The Pro told us that there was only 1 green keeper as they'd had to let the others go due to lack of funding. It's a good course but I wouldn't bother playing with the state it is currently in you'd be wasting your money.

Greens are in a dreadful state !!! the course itself was OK, nothing what I had imagined it would be. Not taking Vouchers, instead it was £20 coffee, bacon roll and round. Considering the state of the course, perhaps 1/2 priced buggies. Would recommend a buggy as it's a hill course!!!!!!

What was a stunning course 5 years ago has now got the worst greens I have played on . After all the favorable weather we had of late there really should be any reason why they were so bad apart from bad green keeping.

I played here staying overnight with my wife at the hotel. Went out mid afternoon for £7.50 which was great value. I would definitely recommmend a buggy next time. The 7th, 8th and 17th are really difficult for high-handicappers and a decent challenge for those with more ability then me. Wherever you hit the 10th it seems to run down into long rough so what that's like in the summer I dread to think.

Played last summer, u need a buggy as long walk, very open with forgiving fairway runoffs, found it very easy and not to exciting to play but ok for day out, a bit expencive as well.

excellent course, thinking mans course good set up great variety of holes, if your into bland easy flat courses, easy readable greens with no breathtaking views then this isn't the track for you!

I played this course with a friend on a weekend away, 1 round saturday and 1 sunday. we both decided that we have been, enjoyed it, and would probably not rush back. There are various highlights. We would suggest that it besy played as a 4 ball, with many other 4 balls, playing as a 2 ball, it seemed slow at times. That said.... we enjoyed it..... GO AS A 4 BALL..... AND BOOK A BUGGY

Personally I didn't enjoy playing this course. All the fairways slope one way or the other. The course is very blind from tee to green on most holes. The greens are very woolly and bumpy. However, time of year doesn't help. Hole 8 is very dangerous, from balls coming from the 7th hole.

Played Shrigley Hall with my wife, and both of us really enjoyed our day. The course is an excellent challenge of golf with good course management required on most holes - position off the tee is essential. There is a good variety of holes, and on many you are likely to be playing of sloping lies. Another feature is that there are some long shots required to carry valleys on a number of the holes. My only disappointment was the state of the tees and greens, which were a little patchy (but this is to be expected at the end of a very wet summer). Our only word of warning is that this is a tough course to walk and you need to be fit ! A buggy is a definite here.
