Druids Heath Golf Club

Located in Aldridge, Druids Heath Golf Club is a member of the Staffordshire Union of Golf Clubs. The 6,660 yard, Par 72 golf course provides a challenging test of golf all year round. The golf course was opened for play in 1974. Its location affords impressive views of the Staffordshire countryside.

  The course looked right, straight from the start. Very well maintained, the fairways and greens were in great condition. There was very little rough so finding a ball (even amongst the trees) wasn't really a problem. The greens were very slick on downhill putts which combined with some interesting slopes and borrows made you think over even the shortest putts. Uphill putts were fine, so it was very much a case of keeping the ball below the hole. Some of the bunkers were nightmares as they had revetted faces and were quite deep. The members were all very friendly and welcoming and the food and drink was excellent and well priced. Overall I would highly recommend a day at this location, I had driven 100 miles to play with some friends and it was money and time very well spent.

  I was expecting another wonderful parkland course in the heart of the west midlands.What i wasn't expecting were the ferocity of the greens.This was March 27th after all.I assembled with my fellow society members for our monthly round and what a round it promised to be .We were met by 20mph winds gusting to very much more.Sleet,rain and the sunshine all made an appearance before and during the round.Practice facilities comprised of a wonderfully true and oh so fast putting green.A couple of chipping greens and a couple of nets to hit into.We were all stunned as to the standard of the putting green.Would they be like that on the course?A pretty standard dog leg left par 5 to start.Lay up short of the 2 cross bunkers or take on the dog leg.Beware OOB on the left.  A short par 4,followed by another par 5.3 more par 4's and then the first par 3.Yet another par 5 followed by par 4 uphill back to the clubhouse.A little lopsided loop of 9 but very enjoyable all the same. A drivable par 4 to start the back 9 but be straight as OOB again on the left.A more even mix of par 4's and par 3's on this 9 with only the one par5.Nearly half of the holes have OOB ,so the need to be straight is vital ,and not just on these holes as trouble can be found on most holes if off line.The wind on the day caused everyone problems and i am sure on a calmer day scores would have been much better.Oh and those greens ! What are they going to be like in the summer?Overall a fantastic course,great challenge,superb surroundings,great condition and i'm sure some of the best greens i have played on and that includes summer greens too.To quote Gen.McArthur,"I shall return."
