Trentham Park Golf Club

Trentham Park Golf Club (TPGC) has, over the years, established itself as a superb parkland golf course conveniently located with excellent access from junction 15 of the M6. Set in the former grounds of Trentham Hall, once the seat of the Duke of Sutherland. TPGC is an 18-hole par 71 golf course that measures 6425 off the back tees with many challenging holes that offer both high and low handicap golfers a fair and exciting challenge. TPGC is the home of Ryder Cup player David Gilford who until June 2006 jointly held the golf course record of 67 with Ronan Rafferty. This honour now belongs to Edward Richardson of Southern Valley Golf Club who carded a 66 during the Midlands Amateur Open Championship on 30th June 2006. European tour player Simon Wakefield is a club member and like David Gilford came through the Club's Junior ranks. The Club has a reputation for making societies and visitors welcome and the food is as good as the course. The clubhouse has been refurbished and offers first class facilities for it's members and visitors.

  This friendly golf club boasts some of the best greens in Staffordshire. It has first rate facilities and a practice green which matches the greens on the course 5 star.

  It's said that you need to play a course a few times to get a true view of a course and that is true of "The Park". You will walk to your shots of first playing it and say,"Right, I need to put it there next time". A few blind shots which leave you with no way of knowing where the flags are can frustrate you. I like to "see" my shots before I hit them and on quite a few holes. The greens have always been good on the times I've played, allowing you to roll the ball to the hole; not scary fast though. Tees have been a little scruffy at times but this course gets some use and is something to be expected. Some great par threes, best being 15 at 151 yards off yellow. inviting from an elevated tee. All the par fives are testing, with the first at 445 yards having water in eye line giving you food for thought. If you can get par at the 17th. 437 par four you have done well,(I have, twice!!. Big head). The 18th can ruin your card as most mid handicap golfers will be hitting 160-170 yards down back for their second to a green with an OOB stream not more than a few strides to the right of the green. A little hard for most golfers. Would I recommend?. Yes...at reduced rate if you can. For me though and for no particular reason, it does not have the wow factor. Best...the Greens. Worst...some blind shots.

  Had a great days golf, was not sure about visiting here after reading the last review but all I can say is assybish must not have had a good day. Greens were true and holding given that the vast areas were dry and a little brown. There are some great holes and the last few on the back nine will test any golfer. Food was also very good.

  This must be one of the unfairest and noisiest golf courses out. The huge number of blind shots to fairways and greens that slope make it a test of luck especially in summer when the fairways and greens are rock hard. Even most of the par 3 holes are blind! Many entrances to greens are very mounded which means when the greens aren't holding there is a total luck element to getting on as if one drops the ball on the front apron it can canon off at 90 degrees. This week ( 20th May the greens were truly awful with the ball bouncing more than it rolled. Then the constant noise of the adjacent M6 and A roads means there is no quiet anywhere. A great pity as it is a visually very attactive course but not one I ever want to play again. In a county short of good golf courses this is no exception.

  Excellent course, wide variety of holes. Ranging from parkland to wooded. Beware the 1st tee shot, its intimidating to say the least. A hidden gem!
