Patshull Park Hotel Golf & Country Club

What we say
Patshull Park Hotel Golf & Country Club is not a classic by any means though, to be fair, it’s not too far off the mark. Golfing legend John Jacobs has created a mini-parkland masterpiece within a tranquil 280-acre estate setting designed by Capability Brown in the 18th century. The centre of Wolverhampton is a short drive away but the beauty of peaceful Patshull is that it seems a million miles away from the madding crowds. It’s not long but it’s relatively tight, specially on the heavily tree-lined holes around the turn. The long par 4 12th hole lives up to its stroke index 1 billing and overall it’s no wonder that Patshull is one of the most popular venues in the region. Played Patshull Park on a fairly calm, dry spring day. First impressions were of an open course, forgiving of wayward tee shots, with water coming into play all over the place. Then you walk "across the lake" into the beautiful gardens of Patshull Hall. The water quickly becomes a thing of the past, to be replaced by really mature cedar, fir and huge conifer trees that test your accuracy off the tees. Terrain also comes into play on these holes, with shots up and down fairly steep slopes. Watch for the sand on the 6th bank!! 3/4 on the right! The 13th brings water back into play with a drive over the lake. Its a short hole so just concentrating on getting across with an iron is suffice. Tee boxes were well maintained - great to see the greenkeepers keep a few of the good quality winter mats in use when the grass wasn't quite ready. The greens were not that challenging, bar a couple where there were real breaks that were tough to read. The bunkers were ok, although a few large stones made us think what lies beneath. We also liked the 150yd markers guiding you to pin locations on the greens. A great idea. Favourite holes were the short downhillers 7th and 9th (big hitters 'could' get on in one) and the watery 13th. The 19th food was excellent - we will return I'm sure - as soon as next years county book comes out!

If you like park land courses Patshull Park is a must to go and play. The condition for 2009 is fantastic and you never get tired of the scenery around the course. plus the staff are very friendly and the hotel and food great.

I play this course as often as I can and absolutely love it. As good looking courses go this is right up there. The golf’s not bad ether but watch out for the out of bounds on the 5th. Only down side is in the winter months the 4th & 12th fairways can get a bit wet. Well worth a visit.

A beautiful course with good views, Tees and greens both in good nick. Some hard hole locations

Have played this course several times now and find it gets better everytime i go, especially the wow factor. Some of the most beautiful holes of golf you'll ever play (especially the par 4 13th, driving over a large lake).

What a great course set in beautiful suroundings and greens in great condition. Very friendly welcome by staff and members. Would recommend this course to golfers of all abilities although it does become tight in places
-
the course is one of the greenest and most natural that iv ever played and can be an easy course if youve got the drive smokin with a few short par 4s on the front 9 and birdie chances on all the par 5s

I played a pro am here several years ago when I had a handicap of 19. It has to be one of the most beautiful courses I've ever played on and was so inspiring I shot 13 over par (6 under my handicap). I recommend this course to everyone.

This is a lovely parkland course and well worth a look. As many specis of trees as Q Gardens so plenty to find off the tee! Good value and a warm welcome.
