Delapre Golf Complex

An open and inviting course – great for high handicappers or beginners.

It’s not the greatest course in the world, but there are some nice holes and it’s a good place to get your game in shape. And it won’t break the bank.

The Delapre Golf Complex is a golfer's paradise. Its pride and joy is the splendid Oaks Golf Course which is set in 260 acres of mature parkland with enough ditches, streams and bunkers to ensure an enjoyable and challenging round, just waiting to catch out even the best golfers! However, Delapre is not just about the Oaks because there's also the Hardingstone Nine, a short but testing nine-holer situated on the hillside below Hardingstone village, plus a couple of nine-hole par 3 golf courses of similar length but very different character. To sum it up, The Delapre Golf Complex is a beautiful club with two fun and challenging course, an 18 and 9 hole respectively.

  As a previous review states, the owners need to invest some money into the courses at Delapre. I've now played all the different courses here (due to friends and not by personal choice), including the Pitch & Putt and the general feel is that the courses could do with some TLC. Bunkers are devoid of sand. The first bunker shot I played here, I assumed that the sand was deeper than three grains and hurt my wrist when the club tried to splash through near concrete type mud. The greens are not good; I can't think of any other word to use. The amount of moss and divets on some of them made my rabbit and dog infested back yard look like something off of an advert for Spanish golf holidays. The club house, range and shop are excellent and the staff members give you a very warm welcome, but overall, there is no WOW factor. The last time I played, I seriously lost the will to live. The courses have potential, but without investment by the owners, I won't be investing my time or money in any more rounds of golf at Delapre.

  I've played this course only twice but I enjoyed both times immensely. It is definitely a beginners golf course. It's open and forgiving, mainly, and isn't too testing a course. The cost is excellent considering it's a full 18 and there are reasonable practice facilities. The greens aren't perfect but they're nowhere near as bad as the previous review stated, at least when I visited. However the bunkers are in dire need of sandy matter. I haven't used the bar/cafe, so I can't comment on that. With an (I think) American Golf store as the shop onsite it rounds it all off well.

  The course can provide a decent test of golf. Not too long but some small greens and plenty of places to make errors. The course is good, but the greens are awful. If only Jack Barkers would invest some money into the greens and bunkers this would make the course a lot better. At this time I won't be wasting my money, playing this course!!! AWFUL
