Melton Mowbray Golf Club

What we say

The town of Melton Mowbray is the birthplace of Stilton Cheese and the humble pork pie but sadly its golf course, Melton Mowbray Golf Club, will never become as internationally famous. Having said that, it’s a fair and decent if unexciting track. When we visited it was in reasonable condition though some of the tees were on the scabby side. The lack of space means the course is a bit ‘bomb alley’ in places. The round is brought to a thrilling end with a cracking par 4, its rolling linksy fairway leading to a slightly raised green.

Melton Mowbray Golf Club was founded in 1925, the nine hole layout being extended to a full 18 holer in 1991. The 18 holes are laid out over 6222 yards of undulating rolling parkland with excellent views over the surrounding countryside.

  • 3.5 out of 5 Very Friendly

Incredibly enjoyable day ouy, great course and great people, everyone we met was polite and friendly. Can't wait to go back there this year.

  • 3.5 out of 5 Pretty good

    By Anonymous

It was in pretty good  nick though some of the bunkers had puddles in them after some heavy rain. The greens were slow to start with but quickened up as the course dried out.

  • 3 out of 5 Narrow fairways

    By Anonymous

Very narrow fairways and the greens weren't too bad. However, the bunkers are probably about the worst in the county. The sand is too heavy and they've been like that for as long as I can remember.

  • 3.5 out of 5 Greens are particularly good

    By Anonymous

The back nine is fairly new but developing well. Originally a nine holer, the course is certainly heading in the right direction and the greens are particularly good.

  • 3.5 out of 5 Tight and testing

    By Anonymous

Fairly tight and testing with small but true greens - probably not so much today because of the rain. Tou can't get away with too many wayward shots.
