Glen Gorse Golf Club

What we say
Don’t take anything for granted at Glen Gorse Golf Club, a well established parkland set-up. You can be having the round of your life but, make no mistake, the wheels can come off big-time coming down the stretch where a trio of ultra-tough par 4s await. There’s a terrific combination of holes with the downhill par-5 5th being the pick of an impressive bunch.
Hopefully, though, you’ve saved some good shots for that stirring finale. When we visited the greenkeepers were hard at work replacing all the sand in the bunkers which unfortunately meant the pivotal penultimate hole was closed.
Glen Gorse Golf Club opened in 1933 but the layout was extended to a par 72 about 20 years ago when two holes were re-designed.

This is one of my favorite courses in Leicestershire, it is a great layout with very good greens, get a tee booked you wont be dissapointed.

What a super golf course! Not at all easy but a really good test of golf. We got a very friendly welcome from the Pro and the members, then found to our delight that the greens and course were simply superb. The greens were fast but really true. All of the holes were interesting but all very different. Narrow fairways that really focused the mind. I would question some of the stroke indexes, but we will most certainly return with friends, even though it's 120 miles from home! Compliments to the course for a great day and for supporting the 2Fore!1 scheme.

It's tight in places, there are some long holes and some short holes. A healthy mix and balance and that's what most golfers like to see. A good all-round course.
-
A very fair test with one of the toughest finishes in the county. Some people think it's tight but I disagree…there's a fair amount of room out there.
-
A fair contest, not overly difficult. There's a nice balance of holes.
-
A mature parkland course, very tight with plenty of trees. The last three holes are particularly demanding - probnably the toughest closing par 4s in the county.

Playing this course again after many years I was pleased to see how the course had matured and become a challenging yet interesting test of golf. Weekends can get very busy so try to go for midweek if you can. Facilities are generally good. Well worth a visit.
