Marriott Breadsall Priory – Moorland Course

Most Breadsall visitors opt to play the Priory, a splendid rollercoaster of a parkland layout. But when the weather is dodgy the neighbouring Moorland course is the place to be – it sits on fast-draining land and as a result rarely closes with the normal tees and greens virtually certain to be in play.

It’s nowhere near as tight and demanding as the Priory and you’ll relish trying to find the green at the short par-4 7th and 10th holes which incidentally share the same ‘dancefloor.’ You’ll also thoroughly enjoy the 14th, a delicious little downhill par-3, and the charming Marriott mansion hotel if you’re staying on site.

This par-70 takes centre stage during the winter. Despite being fairly exposed, it’s sand-based and free-draining, ensuring play even on the wettest days. Generous fairways provide plenty of chances to unleash the driver.

The Marriott Breadsall Priory, Moorland Golf Course opened in 1991 and was designed by rowned architect Donald Steele. It stands in more than 400 acres of parkland and is a complete contrast to sister course the Priory: it is open and exposed to the elements and is sand-based allowing for all-year round play with the normal greens being used.

  A fantastic course especially for a high handicapper, wide open and great scenery. I was a member for 2 years and loved the course but the staffs attitudes were appalling and the food and drink wasnt much better. Well worth the money but i wouldnt recommend the club house.
