Buxton & High Peak Golf Club

Buxton & High Peak Golf Club, formed in 1887 and designed by J Morris, is the oldest club in Derbyshire. The golf course has superb views over the Peak District National Park.

The golf course is based on free-draining limestone, and is certainly one of the most consistently playable in the area. Often influenced by the prevailing winds, the 5,966-yard par 69 golf course provides members and visitors with a challenging and enjoyable test of golf.

Although set some 1100 feet above sea level, the golf course is not subjected to arduous hill climbs. The clubhouse overlooks the first and 18th fairways and provides a bar, lounge and excellent catering facilities with a friendly and welcoming atmosphere.

  This course is long, varied and challenging, you definately know you have had a good walk but it's well worth the effort. One minute you play a short blind uphill par three, the next minute you are playing a long par four with a road to your right (OOB naturally) and a well placed quarry part way down the fairway to focus the mind as you tee off!  this is a course that gets you thinking and which rewards course management.  The scenery is wonderfuland the course is kept in fantastic condition.  We found the members chatty and welcoming. The clubhouse was plush, clean and well equipped.  The bar staff were very welcoming, the food was great and very reasonably priced. I will be back!

  travelled over from derby after a recommendation to play this course in the winter,we took advantage of the winter deal £10 for 18 holes plus soup and sandwiches. Fairways and greens were in excellent condition  with some very testing holes in the breezy conditions . the course not to hilly  more gentle rolling parkland with good views over the peak district a definite to revisit in the summer months

  I played this course Sunday 10th June 2007 in a three ball, the course I would consider average. I feel £30 would be too much and glad we used 2 for 1 which I felt was better value and about right for the standard of the course (we paid £20 each) The scenery is the best thing about the course, breathtaking, the course is a short one, two par 5's. Although some of the holes are basic the course as a whole is interesting and very tricky in places. The condition of the course was average, daisys on fairways and the greens although patchy played well. I felt the hole the worst hole was the 8th where you tee off 2 metres away from a busy road. Apart from that it was a good test of golf and a great day. The Clubhouse was welcoming and flexible however we were disappointed on returning at 6pm to find the clubhouse had stopped serving food !
