What we say
Royal Norwich Golf Club offers a good mix of holes over a pleasant, undulating landscape as well as excellent greens and a fine clubhouse and practice facilities. But beware of the flying balls where the 4th and 8th fairways cross. Pick of the holes is the par 4 2nd where a long, accurate drive is required to avoid bunkers and to leave a shot to the green.
Royal Norwich Golf Club was formed in 1893 and The Duke of York (the future King George V) quickly consented to become club patron, the golf club's emblem being designed around the white rose of York. The first nine holes covering some 2,920 yards were opened on St Andrew's Day, November 30th while Royal Norwich's official opening took place on February 1st, 1894, by which date 18 holes (measuring 4,925 yards) were in play. Royal Norwich still occupies its original site selected by the founding fathers at Hellesdon and the layout has remained largely unchanged since James Braid’s alterations in 1924.
Stay & Play: Hotel Norwich while a Holiday Inn is just down the road from the course.
