Weald Park Golf Club

The course at Weald Park was constructed in 1992/3 having been designed by the renowned course architect Reg Plumbridge. Set in 200 acres of tranquil Essex countryside, the course measures 6386 yards with a par of 71 and presents a unique challenge for golfers of all handicap ranges.  Unlike many courses in the county, one of the best features is that every hole is completely different. This is made possible by the naturally undulating and wooded land the course was designed on. Very little in the way of landscaping was needed to produce the layout. Water hazards come into play on no fewer than eleven holes and the large fairway and greenside bunkers compliment the picturesque surroundings perfectly.

The greens are all built to USGA specifications – constructed with a sophisticated network of drainage pipes covered by two grades of gravel drainage blanket, an intermediate coarse sand layer and a mechanically blended homogeneous root zone of fine sand and subsoil. Owing to the construction of our greens they remain playable and surprisingly dry throughout the year. We never have to use temporary greens. The finer grass species suited to quick, smooth greens thrive on our root zone mix.

Under new ownership as of November 2013, Brentwood Golf Club (formerly Weald Park Golf Club) offers an 18 hole parkland course featuring mature trees, several lakes, and numerous bunkers, providing all golfers with a challenge.

Although the new owners are actively working tom improve the course, Brentwood Golf Club still offers a good challenge and a nice day out.

Once the course has finished being renovated, we expect this to be a top Essex course.

  Very hard to rate this course as it's clear that a lot of work is being done on it. The course itself is one of the most interesting I've played in the local area with many holes where course management is a must. My favourite hole was the 16th where you play an iron for placement off the tee, or if ur brave can hit a wood over the corner. Condition wise the greens need work, but while we were playing were being seeded. The fairways were bad in places, but I'm sure will be improved on in time. The bunkers were bad the last time I played here, but all now had new sand in and looked great. Also the club house had been re-opened and enjoyed a nice cold drink in the spike bar afterwards, which looked very good. My only complaint on the day is that the fringes around the greens could have done with a cut. All in all for £15 mid week to play this course was great value for money and would recommend to anyone!

  Have played weald twice now and only this winter.  On both occassions the greens have been good overall despite some standing water in places.  Winter tees are frustrating at the best of time but I wish they would make them larger, I felt like I was falling off the edge if I tee'd off with any wood or long iron. Criticisms aside, Weald is a lovely course and I can't wait to play it dry.  There is enough variety of hole to entertain all golfers.  Often the course allows for a big stick tee shot with their generous fairways but will then ask questions and demand accuracy with second and approach shots.  Because of the hills the flag is often unseen from the tee and this makes the course interesting.  You can print a yardage guide from thier website and I found this very useful as their are no hole maps at the tee.  Love the third (4 and 4!), hate the ninth(a 10 and a 9!) and the 16th is a dog leg where big hitters can hybrid over trees to cut the corner but most will 6 or 7 twice to turn the corner. At £15 after 12pm at the moment Weald is excellent value and a welcoming location with good facilities.  Can't wait to play it in the summer as I feel £25 is still a good price and twilight would be even better value.
