Hylands Golf Complex

What we say
Hylands Golf Complex was part of the old Hylands Estate in bygone days.
The numerous water hazards and several doglegs make the course challenging but good scores are definitely there for taking, especially with the wide fairways.
While not being the cheapest of courses, the nice layout should make for a good, fair test.

Played 15/8/2015 and came off after 9 holes. The greens were appalling and like the fairways on most other courses. They had not been watered for weeks. The fairways were like the rough on most other courses and had not been cut for a while. Then, when we asked for a refund after playing only 9 holes, we were told we have to write to the directors who will review and respond in 28 days. No wonder there was no problem booking a tee time on a Saturday!!

What could be a lovely course is ruined by the poor level of maintenance it receives. The greens are woeful, the bunkers full of mud and stones (no sand!!) and the fairways are not mown anywhere near enough. The semi rough is often covered in all the cut grass making finding your ball an unnecessary chore. At £22 a round with no twilight deals either it's not exactly cheap!! It's a shame because the course layout is interesting and the Hylands Estate is a nice setting but it needs some serious TLC. A real shame.

Hylands has a links feel as it is quite open and it can be breezy when you think it will be calm. A par 5 opening hole let's you unwind with a couple of big hits but be careful as the out of bounds on the left may catch you out.Overall i find it an enjoyable course to play as it does give you opportunities to get a good score. They are £24.00 for the weekend fee and this stays for the whole time as they do not do a twilight rate which i find a bit odd seeing as when i go it is not overly booked,You can play just 9 holes for £14.00.One thing they do have is a great custom fitting service and very knowledgeable coaching staff.Well worth a visit if your heads full of must do this, must do that.
