Gog Magog Golf Club – Old Course
Last updated:
What we say
On the outskirts of Cambridge you’ll discover a wonderful venue featuring the historic Old Course (opened in 1901) and the modern Wandlebury (1997). But it’s the Old most want to play as it offers great variety, views and test.
Provides great variety on the course as well as great views over Cambridge. A good test for all abilities.
Gog Magog Golf club is close to Cambridge and is used to hosting some of the best amateur golfers in the country - the famous Lagonda Trophy has been played here many times though even the top amateurs struggle to master a course that celebrated its centenary in 2001.
The golf course is very traditional, hillside/parkland layout that has changed little since its creation over a century ago. Also on site is the 18 hole par 72 Wandlebury golf Course measuring 6,735 yards.
Stay & Play: The Centennial on Hills Road and The Arundel in Cambridge itself.

By modern standards, not the longest but the old course has a lovely feel to it of yesteryear. Having played it a few times now, I can say the greens and fairways (in fact the overall condition) seem to have improved beyond belief over the last three years with new green staff apparently in place. Just a proper bufty old track - not the best in the country by any means, but the best in Cambridgeshire by some way (although the competition isn't great...). Definately worth a round, very enjoyable with some very good holes and par fives that encourage you to have a hit.

Played this course recently. First of all the pro tried to refuse my 2Fore1 voucher, when he did finally accept it and we got on the course the greens were in terrible condition and the fairways were in bad need of cutting. Typical green fees are £40!!! Far better value for money out there...

Just south of Cambridge, this gem of a course is a must for all golf fans. The Old course has a good feel, with plenty of good holes to test your golf swing. The greens are fast and true and will test any putting stroke. The clubhouse offers good facilities and the whole experience is extremely memorable.
