CLUB COMMENT: A tunnel has been put in for safety reason for the green staff under the A57.
The stage on which GB&I won the Ryder Cup against the odds in 1957, this is a glorious heathland course which was laid out by Tom Dunn on common ground in 1891. A second nine was added in 1894 and 40 years later Fred Hawtree brought the layout up to today’s standard. Pick of the holes is the par-4 15th, played to a green enclosed by a drystone dyke.
