A course of two halves; the front loop is laid out on fairly flat land but is perfectly pleasant… but as you board the tee of the 10th, you are suddenly on one of the finest nines in GB&I. The 10th is a cute par-3 which eases you into the 11th, a glorious hole which begins on an elevated tee from which you fire to a fairway down below which is cut through two lines of awesome dunes. This standard continues to 18.
“We used to go to Hillside as assistant pros and it was always a brilliant day out,” Tour star Robert Rock tells GW. “What always stays in the memory is the back nine and two incredible looking par-5s, the 11th and 17th, that run alongside one another, while the rest is a brilliant test of strategy among the dunes and pines. Hopefully I’ll go back there in August as it’s part of the English Tour.”
