Prairie Dunes: The true definition of a hidden gem
Of all the places you could play and stay in the United States in the coming year or years, Nebraska’s Prairie Club stands top of a long list.
The true definition of a hidden gem, the nearest town is Valentine, south of Dakota but in what feels like the middle of nowhere. Built in 2010, the Prairie Club was “conceived to be a place as pure as the game itself. Vast blue skies and prairie plus a leave-well-enough-alone policy make it hard to know where nature ends and the course begins.
Three courses await you, the star of which is Tom Lehman’s The Dunes, a massive wind-shaped landscape of vast sandy dune blowouts and prairie grass. Stout wooden lodges and the vast cowboy steaks of your dreams add to the experience. But be warned. There are no day spas or health clubs here. Just golf at its purest.
