The San Roque Golf Club Old

What we say
This is a famously extravagant Dave Thomas creation, some have fallen out of love with this Spanish favourite, but it is still a joy to play.

Dave Thomas designed The San Roque Golf Club Old, which opened in 1991 to rave reviews. The golf course, which has hosted the Spanish Open and European Tour Q-school, is both long and tight. The cork oaks that make the front nine so tough start to filter out on the second half, but water hazards start taking their place – there's no let-up.

From the minute your drive into San Roque the history, heritage and professionalism can not be surpassed. We took advantage of the 19th hole offer including green fee, buggies and food afterwards. Outstanding value. 2 putting greens, chipping green, range. Great clubhouse. Fantastic course with simply 5 or 6 of the best holes i'd ever played. Par 5 5th, Par 4 6th, 18th and 16th leave their mark. Some long Par 3's requiring a good rescue/5 wood. Trees can cause a few issues if you're wayward off the t. Par 5's a fair and reachable for the longer hitters. Never played on better greens than these, quick in areas but fair and readable. The best course ive played in Spain. Julia Roberts Golf Society
