Mijas Golf Club – Los Olivos

What we say
Mijas Golf Club – Los Olivos was opened in 1984 and is shorter and tighter than its big brother. Quite different in character, despite the same designer, Los Olivos has only one lake – although it comes into play on several holes – and more trees. Greens are smaller too, so here the premium is on accuracy.

The resort's other course, Los Lagos was closed for maintenance, so it was no surprise for this to be busy. Car parking is so limited that I don't know how they cope with both courses open. The experience overall was OK, but by no means the quality golf the Mijas web site would have you expect. Basically the course is well laid-out with interesting holes, but not necessarily best suited to "the more technically gifted" as the blurb claims. Condition of the course was our biggest criticism; tees were consistently poor, all with grass too long, but many with rough and bare patches too. Fairway mowers had no boxes so cuttings were all over the fairways. There were no dress rules judging by the society playing in front of us. I think if the Mijas people don't enforce minimum codes of behaviour, then sometime soon they will get the reputation of a "party" type course. Certainly not worth the money they charge.
