What we say
Reviewed in TG issue 252: Darren Clarke-designed Moyvalley is being talked about as a potential Tour venue and the blend of water features, dense rough and lightning-fast greens gives it all the right credentials.
It’s certainly a great matchplay track – anything can happen coming down the stretch, especially at the stroke index 12 par-4 16th. There’s water all the way down the left, lots of bunkers on the right and you’re asked to hit a nerve-jangling approach shot, against the wind, into the lakeside green.
Moyvalley is only two years old but is maturing fast and is very much a rising star. The greens in particular are a joy to putt on.
Course designer Darren Clarke says: On this project I worked with the owners, the Jackson family and also with European Golf Design. Together, we created a course to be enjoyed by the weekend golfer as well as the tournament professional.
With this in mind there is considerable variation between the championship tees and the front tees. I am especially delighted with the greens and you’ll find that they are among the best putting surfaces in the country. We created gentle slopes which will make you and other golfers think about where to place your approach shot, especially when the greens are fast or in windy conditions.
