Killarney Golf Club (Killeen Course)

What we say
Killarney Golf Club has three golf courses; Killeen is the best of them.
The star of this three-course club was created by the splitting – which was controversial at the time – of the club’s original Mahony’s Point layout.
It is part of the fabled Ring of Kerry yet is very different from the other star-studded courses in the area – because unlike Waterville and Ballybunion, it is not a rugged links.
It is more like Loch Lomond in character, incorporating rolling fairways, mature trees, mountain backdrops and lots of water as the holes make their way round lakes (loughs in Ireland).

Set on the beautiful Lough Leane, in the even more beautiful Co Kerry, the Killeen course hosted the Irish Open in 2010 and 2011.
The scene is spectacular with the 1st, 3rd and 4th holes all bringing the lake into play. They promise fantastic views and terrifying golf shots.

After this incredible start things drop a notch as the rest of the course heads away from the lake. The drama then comes from the mature trees as holes move easily between them and the backdrop of the MacGillycuddy’s Reeks.
This is a charming parkland with a fast start and dramatic finish. Don’t expect the onlooking deer to be interested in your golf though.
