Quinta da Ria Golf Club

What we say
Quinta da Ria Golf Club’s golf course starts gently and picks up momentum after the turn, starting at the superb par-4 10th which is probably the signature hole.
You need to be fully focused before you tee off in order to give yourself the best chance of finding the green. The greens, incidentally, are generous, subtlely undulating and therefore always testing.
You also need to carefully negotiate the five lakes which come into play on several holes.

Quinta da Ria Golf Club opened in 2002 just a few months before the neighbouring Quinta de Cima golf course.
Quinta da Ria stretches over a beautiful part of the eastern coast of the Algarve known as the Sotavento. It was designed by Rocky Roquemore.

I've just returned from playing both Quinta da Ria and Cima. Ria - this is the easier of the 2 and although the opening few holes are fairly standard fare the course then moves towards the sea and onto a really great back nine with testing shots of water and great sea views. Good value golf. Cima - This is a proper course, especially when playing it off the backs as we did. At well over 7,000 yards it is littered with 200 yard par threes and 450-plus yard par fours, every one of which makes you wonder how on earth you can make a par. Play half decent golf and you do however and it finishes on a high at the 18th with a huge carry over a stream to the fairway. Memorable golf and it's all in good nick. The only thing that let it down slightly was the welcome - it doesn't exist. It just feels a little like a money making machine. AStill well worth experiencing as a facility though!

we played this course in a 70/80 kph wind which coloured our view. However on reflection this course is an excellent test of golf with some superb holes. However if staying in Villamoura there are better courses only 10/15 mins from the major hotels. Not worth the hassle fo driving 60/70 kms to sample this course.

Quinta Da Ria is the sister course to Quinta Da Cima and whilst it is in equally good condition it offers an easier alternative to QDC. Panoramic views and a friendly welcome add to a very enjoyable experience.QDR and QDC along with Benamor offer a great alternative to Vilamoura
