Penina Golf Course – Championship

What we say
The Algarve hasn’t looked back since the late, great Sir Henry Cotton created Penina Golf Course – Portugal’s first resort golf course. Penina literally set the Algarve ball rolling in 1966 and is a true class act..and you need to be pretty classy to get the better of it. Precious few have managed to achieve that feat – the many lakes make sure of that! There are also a bettery of strategically-placed bunkers and around 4,000 trees.
Soft spikes required

Look no further - the Championship course really is a true Championship layout - one of the very few in southern Europe!

Stayed and played there this summer. Was great hotel and the course was in awesome condition. The course requires accuary and is a real test. Exceptional must play!
-
Played it last year & was equally as impressed if not more this year! After playing the more expensive & inferior Quinta da Lago & Vale de Lobo Royal, coming to Penina was a delight. Par 3 SI of 7,9,11 & 14 meant none of your pitch & putt stuff. Par 5's that require three good shots to get there and a welcome better than anywhere visited thus far on the Algarve. Yes, a forty five minute drive from Albufeira but well well worth it! A gem that must not be missed!

having played at lot of courses on the algarve you cant find any better its got somthing for golfers of all abilities
-
Lengthy drive for base camp in Albufira but worth the wait! Golf course a absolute delight to play and one our society will be re-visiting without fail!
-
If you can afford it, well worth a visit, some tough long par 4's, always in good nick, I will be back when I've saved up some money.
-
Great course no faults, bit pricey, but wotta experience and a challenge
-
Wonderful features that require good course management. Be sure to understand the distances stated in metres rather than yards. Fairways are soft sand based and can give the impression you're tearing up the course. Challenging but a must play course for the Algarve.

The course is a real challenge, especially on the longer par 4's. If your long game is not working, play the acadamy course instead. However, if you are OK off the tees, go ahead and have a great round.

Great course but bloody hard. Not for high handicappers
