With two Kyle Phillips courses, Sicilian sun and a Rocco Forte hotel – what’s not to like? The East is in our view the better of the two courses, offering more variety by virtue of the changes in the direction of the holes but Phillips was clearly of a mind to spread what would be considered the best of the terrain across both layouts. Indeed, he finishes the West with four seaside holes of stunning quality and a composite course is used for the European Tour’s Sicilian Open. This is a combination of clifftop and inland golf – with the inland holes on eye-catching terrain which is very specifically Sicilian. Donnafugata, further south, also has two fine courses, making Sicily a surprisingly well-endowed destination.
